We weren’t quite ready for that first “too cold” snap this year. In preparation we moved water tanks around and installed electric tank heaters. We moved the young calves to shelter and filled all of the chicken feeders. We thought all was taken care of until I was filling my water glass at the kitchen sink and the water just stopped. The out-of-sight, out-of-mind law got us this time. It never occurred to us that after we built the new well house this summer, we didn't insulate it. Fortunately, we were able to thaw it immediately, before any pipes broke.

Everything is so beautiful here after the snow. I've uploaded a few pictures in case you are wishing you were here.

If it is your turn to journey to the farm this weekend, you can expect the roads to be in good condition.

We sold all of the goats to a neighbor today. I always feel sad when animals leave the farm. Then I remember that they ate ALL of the 200 seedling trees we planted last spring. They also ruined the paint job on my Honda CRV by playing King Goat of the Mountain on it. Good riddance goats! We'll miss your cute babies, but they just grow up too fast!

Wanda had a baby boy this morning. What a cold day to be born!

Have a warm weekend!
